about prep., adv.&a.用作介词时,可译为:
(1)关于、对于
   That is a book about flower.那是一本关于花卉的书。
(2)忙于、关心(某事)
    Everywhere people were going about their daily business.无论在哪里人们都在忙于自己的日常事务。
(3)到处
   The papers were all about the room.文件撤得满屋都是。
(4)围绕、在四周(相当于around)
   He planted treeabout the house.他在房屋周围种一些树。
    She wore a shawl about her shoulders.她在肩上围上一条披肩。
(5)在附近一带、在身边
    We wandered about
the town for an hour or so.我们花了一个小时左右的时间,
    在城里附近转了转。
    She is a woman who likeshave her children about her.她喜欢孩子们都在身边。
(6)(某人、某物)有某特点
   There is a strange smell about him.他身上有股怪味新浪微博:金嘴巴英语
   There is something about him that I don’t like.他性格上有些东西我不喜欢。


用作副词时,可译为:
(1)到处、四处
   The children were rushing about in the garden.孩子们在花园里到处跑。
   Her books were lying about the floor.地板上到处散放着她的书。
(2)在附近
   There was nobody about周围没人。
   She's somewhere,about I saw her:few minutes ago.她就在附近,刚才我还见
   过她。
(3)大约、将近
   They waited (for) about an hour.他们等了大约一个小时。
   The work is about finished.工作即将完成。
  I'm just about ready.我马上准备好了。
(4)(转到)相反方向
   He brought the ship about 他改变了航向。

用作形容词时,该词译为:
(1)在活动着
   Few people were about on the streets.街上的人很少。
   The pane is up and about again病人已经又能起来活动了。
(2)流通着、存在着
   The news is going about.消息正在传开。

about face与先前完全不同的立场
The company did an about face on contract terms.公司对合同条款的态度来了个一百八十度转弯。
he about to do sth正要做某事
I‘m just about to ask you the same thing.我正要问你这件事。
he about to do sth正要做某事
I was just about to ask you the same thing.我正要问你这件事。
not be about to do sth不愿或不打算做某事
I've never done any cooking and I'm not about to start.我从未做过饭,现在也不打算学做。
go about着手做某事
I must go about my work right away or I'll fall behind my schedule.我得立刻着 手自己的工作,否则就不能按计划完成了.
see about负责处理
He said he would see about the matter.他说他来处理这件事。
bring about引起、带来
The computer has brought about/about changes in our live,计算机使我们的生活 发生了很大的变化。
